Jewish Environmental Initiative
and
Interfaith Partnership of Metropolitan St. Louis
invite you to

HAVE A FUN AND MEANINGFUL EARTH DAY:
Help God's Creation by Planting Trees in Forest Park!

Please join us as we again co-sponsor a tree planting in
Forest Park as part of the St. Louis Earth Day 2003 Festival.
The tree planting will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 27.

Planters should meet at Steinberg Skating Rink.

The tree planting will begin with a brief interfaith program before volunteers “dig in.”
(Steinberg is at the east end of the park off of Kingshighway.
Turn into the Park at Barnes Hospital Plaza, just north of Highway 40.)

Last year’s event was a big success as 800 trees were planted near Steinberg Skating Rink and the Science Center. For 2003, we will plant
1,000 trees in Forest Park!

The tree planting will happen come rain or shine.

This is a great participatory event for faith organizations, youth groups, scouts,
schools, and congregational social action projects. People of all ages are welcome-
we will be planting saplings, so no heavy digging is required! Bring the family and
group and enjoy the full day of activities at the Earth Day Festival in the park!
(Gloves, shovels and trowels, shoes to get messy in, and bottled water are all
optional!)

The St. Louis Earth Day Festival will be on Sunday, April 27th, 2003, 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on and around the Muny grounds in Forest Park. “Clean Air”, “Clean Water”, “Healthy Land”, and “Healthy Self” festival areas will highlight this year’s theme of "Passport to A Healthy Planet."

" Passports" are available which, when stamped at various activities at the festival (including the tree planting), can be redeemed for rewards and discounts at participating institutions.

An Art Village will provide opportunities for creative expression, and an intergenerational performance arts area will feature both a children’s performance troupe stage and an elders’ storytelling theatre. In addition to the tree planting, service projects in Forest Park will provide volunteers with the opportunity to participate in a park clean-up and sow wildflowers. An Earth Day Run for the Rivers the morning of the festival benefits four local non-profits.

Of special interest to members of the Jewish community will be a storytelling performance on the "Uncommon Rhythms" stage: from 2:10 to 2:55 (just enough time to make it to the tree planting afterwards!), the Elders Storytelling Circle will share Jewish folklore about animals and nature.
For more information on the Festival and passports,  visit the Earth Day web site!

We would appreciate knowing about how many people to expect on April 27. To let us know you are coming to the tree-planting, or for further information including directions to the tree-planting site, please contact the Jewish Environmental Initiative by phone or e-mail at:
