Shaare Zedek Men’s Club

Program Announcement for December 17, 2003

This month the Men’s Club will host its monthly meeting on Wednesday evening, December 17th at 7 PM. Deli sandwiches and beverages will be served, so feel free to come straight from the office to join us for a most interesting guest speaker and program. You will not go home hungry !!!!!!

It will be our privilege to welcome Batya Abramson-Goldstein, Executive Director of the Jewish Community Relations Council, as our guest speaker. Batya’s presentation is entitled “Israel and the Holocaust.”

Batya Abramson-Goldstein was appointed Executive Director of the Jewish Community Relations Council, effective January 1, 2003. Batya first joined the St. Louis Jewish Community Relations Council in November of 1988 as Director of International Affairs and was appointed Associate Executive Director in 1992. She served as Coordinator of the Refugee Resettlement Effort of the Jewish Social Service Agency in Washington, D.C. from 1987-1988

In her service at the JCRC as Associate Executive Director, Batya was responsible for the Israel Strategy Committee; World Jewry and Other International Concerns Task Force; and initiatives for teenagers and college students. She directed activities of the JCRC Student to Student Program, which she created in 1990 with the support of a Jewish Federation Planning Grant. This prejudice reduction program, which develops leadership among Jewish teens while combating stereotyping, was initiated with 10 Jewish high school students. Today, it has over 70 teens participating and reaches thousands of area high school students yearly. Batya was the 1993 recipient of the Jewish Federation’s Fred A. Goldstein Memorial Service Award. This award is given annually for outstanding innovative achievement in the field of Jewish communal service.

Please join us for an educational evening with Batya Abramson-Goldstein and know that both your intellect and stomach will be satiated by the end of the evening !!!! Please call the synagogue office to make a reservation so that we can plan appropriately for the dinner. As always, all are welcome !!!
