Mitzvah Day Updates

Marvin Marcus reports that the sorting of books was a success:
We've got 10 boxes of reusable Silverman siddurim (approx 250 volumes) that will be distributed to
institutions in need. Arrangements are being made by Howard Shalowitz, who has agreed to act as our "broker".

We have a larger quantity of siddurim requiring burial (approx. 350 volumes--mainly, but not exclusively, Silverman siddurim). Details of burial remain to be worked out.

Some materials (children's books, etc) were made available to our congregants. See the Office for details.
As for the non-religious books: Marvin will be seeing to the disposal of this material (some will go to JCC booksale, some will be discarded). We're talking about several hundred volumes.

Actually, there's a considerable quantity of books of various descriptions that will have survived this "de-accquisition" effort. Hope it won't take another mitzvah day to finish what we've started.

In connection with the Tallit repair project, Stevie Freidman reports:
I would like to thank those who helped with the tallis project, especially Howard who devoted much time to tieing Tztzi. Tallis tally: 8 tallisim re-tztzized. this takes about 45 minutes per tallis.

Denise Field (who was filling in for the day for Debbie Schuster who did all the legwork in advance) reports on the clothing drive that there were at least 20 bags (We used almost an entire box of garbage bags, as well as about 5 other huge bags.)

Gary Kodner also deserves thanks for getting things organized at Mitzvah Day.

I want to make sure to thank the folks who donated clothing as well as the many who helped sort-- including Jules and Terry Kenny (Debbie Rubin's folks), Debbie Zimmerman, Susan Cort and her younger daughter, Hannah Klein, Joel Portman, Mark Levin, Roger Lewis, and many others.
