Parashat Vaera
Exodus 6:2-9:35
When did G-d enter your life? Was it a quiet, reflective moment, a dangerous event, a time of awe such as a birth, death or burning bush? Each character in Genesis had a personal relationship with YHVH, showing different paths to faith. In Parshat Vaera G-d ―remembers‖ the enslaved Israelites and re-enters the historical narrative, trying to prove to them and the Pharaoh that He is the mightiest and most deserving to be worshiped. Imagine convincing the thousands of individuals that make up the Israelite tribe, each with a personal opinion and free will, to be of One Mind. If you were there, would you have been convinced of this long absent G-d or trust Moses to be your leader? Could there have been better consensus than with modern Jews today?
Meet in the rabbi’s study 15 minutes after services to discuss these and your own ideas from this week’s Torah portion.
