The St. Louis Jewish Environmental Initiative is encouraging all families to put a new "twist" on Hankkah this year and to change at least one lightbulb in the home to a compact fluorescent (cfl) lightbulb when lighting the Hanukkah Menorah. Nationally this effort is being promoted by COEJL, the Coalition for the Environment and Jewish life. |
| In order to promote and maintain a sustainable world, each person must take personal responsibility to conserve energy in the home, drive less, plant trees, reduce-reuse-recycle and educate our children that the earth’s resources are not limited. CFL bulbs use up to 75% less energy than regular incandescent light and last seven to ten times longer. If every U.S. household replaced one bulb, it would have the same impact as removing one million cars from the road. |
