June 7-June 21, 2006

Wednesday, June 7 th : Enroute

Today we embark on our journey to Israel at 2:30pm from Newark , NJ on El Al flight 28. Thursday, June 8 th : Jerusalem

Reforested area in the Yatir Forest

JNF Forest

Upon our morning arrival at Ben Gurion International, we will be met and transferred to a JNF Forest , where we can plant a tree and be part of the many hands that have helped reforest the Land of Israel . Afterwards, we will ascend Jerusalem and celebrate by saying the Shechehiyanu. We'll proceed to our hotel, the Inbal , for dinner and overnight.

Friday, June 9 th : Jerusalem

Western Wall Tunnels

This morning we'll be headed to the Old City of Jerusalem . First we'll take a look at the ruins of Robinson's Arch , a huge staircase that led up to the Temple Mount . We'll move on to the Davidson Center where the ruins of the temple mount come to life. Afterwards we'll walk through the fantastic Western Wall Tunnels before having lunch. In the afternoon, we'll take a drive through the orthodox neighborhood of Mea Shearim before heading to the Kotel for Kabbalat Shabbat. In the evening we'll enjoy a Shabbat Dinner at the hotel. Overnight, Inbal Hotel, Jerusalem .

Inbal Hotel Courtyard Saturday, June 10 th : Jerusalem Shabbat Shalom! This morning we will be attending Shabbat Services . After we lunch together at the hotel, the afternoon is to be spent at your leisure. In the evening we'll go out shopping. Be sure to check out the beautiful jewelry and Judaica. Overnight, Inbal Hotel, Jerusalem .

Sunday, June 11 th : Jerusalem

Today we'll spend a full day touring the New City of Jerusalem . First we'll go to the Israel Museum , where you can learn about the history of the Land and also visit the Shrine of the Book where the Dead Sea Scrolls are kept. We move on to Yad Sara and then head to see the Chagall Windows at Hadassah Hospital . We'll all lunch together before visiting Mount Herzl cemetery to pay respect to Theodore Herzyl, Golda Meir, and Yitzhak Rabin. Afterwards we'll walk through the Bible Zoo, which contains fauna from the biblical period, and we'll see 3000 years of Israeli history in the Time Elevator . In the evening we'll all dine together in a local restaurant. Overnight, Inbal Hotel, Jerusalem .

Massada

Monday June 12 th :
Jerusalem/Dead Sea/Eilat


Today we begin our long journey southwards to Eilat. On the way we'll stop at Massada , a huge plateau with the remains of ancient Herodian Palaces which served as the last stronghold of the Zealots against the Romans in the early years following 70 C.E. We move on afterwards to the Dead Sea , where we can bask in the therapeutic waters and receive relaxing spa treatments. Next we continue our journey through Arava and onto our hotel, the Dan Eilat , for dinner and overnight.

Petra

Tuesday June 13 th : Eilat/Optional day to Petra

Today we have the option to either take a full day excursion to the ancient Nabatean city of Petra in Jordan , or spend a full day sightseeing and relaxing in the beautiful resort city of Eilat . Perhaps we'll have dinner on a glass bottom boat on the Red Sea . Overnight, Dan Eilat. Wednesday June 14 th : Eilat/Jerusalem

Land of Genesis

After breakfast we move back northwards to Jerusalem . On the way we will first stop at the Mitzpe Ramon , the largest crater on earth. Then we'll move north to Avdat , the ruins of an ancient Nabatean city. Soon after we'll visit Kibbutz Sde Boker , the site of the birth of David Ben Gurion. We'll continue northwards to Eretz Bereshit , the Land of Genesis , where you can see a working subsistence level agricultural lifestyle as lived by the patriarchs and matriarchs of the Bible. There we'll have dinner before returning to the Inbal Hotel for overnight.

Thursday June 15 th : Jerusalem


Mini-Israel

We start our day with a somber visit to Yad Vashem , where we can visit the museum, the children's pavilion, and walk down the Avenue of the Righteous. There will be a simultaneous program for the children in the sculpture garden. Afterwards we'll head to the spectacular Neot Kedumim Biblical Landscape Preserve for lunch and a tour. Next we'll head onto Mini-Israel , where you can see the sites of this amazing country model-sized. In the evening we return to the hotel. Dinner is on your own. Consider trying the kosher-dairy Italian restaurant Sophia, located inside the Inbal Hotel. Overnight, Inbal Hotel, Jerusalem .

Friday, June 16 th : Jerusalem /Safed

After breakfast we'll head north from Jerusalem to the mystical city of Safed . On the way we'll visit the archeological treasure of Zippori , paying particular attention to the mosaic of a woman, known as the “other Mona Lisa.” We'll then head onto Haifa , for a beautiful panoramic view of the city and the Mediterranean Sea below. We'll also stop at beautiful Bahai Hanging Gardens . After this we'll visit Acco , the ancient Phoenician city turned Crusader fortress. Next we move onto Rosh Hanikra , the northern-most point on Israel 's Mediterranean coast, known for it's spectacular grottos carved by the sea out of limestone cliffs. In the evening we'll enjoy a peaceful Shabbat Dinner at the Ruth Rimonim , our hotel in Safed.

Safed Synagogue

Saturday, June 17 th : Safed

Shabbat Shalom! To celebrate your second Shabbat in the Holy Land , we'll attend services in the morning, followed by a tour of the Synagogues in Safed. Our lunch will be at the Rimonim, and in the evening we'll be able to meet with local artists. Overnight, Ruth Rimonim, Safed. Sunday, June 18 th : Safed/Tel Aviv

Gamla

Today we'll do some more touring in the north before heading southwards to Israel 's cultural center, Tel Aviv. We'll stop at the ancient archeological sites of Qazrin and Gamla , described perfectly by Josephus Flavius in The Jewish War . We'll also take a ride through the Golan Heights before heading to the Naot Shoe Factory . In the evening we'll arrive in Tel Aviv and have dinner at the amazing kosher-meat restaurant, Maganda . Then we'll return to the Carlton Hotel for dinner and overnight.

Monday, June 19 th : Tel Aviv

Independence Hall

After breakfast we'll be participating in an Archeological Dig . We'll have lunch and then head to Independence Hall to see where David Ben Gurion made his famous speech announcing the independence of the State of Israel. Then we head to the Palmach Museum to learn more about the development of the Israeli army and the fight for independence. In the evening, we may enjoy a Dinner Show before returning to the Carlton for overnight.  

Ayalon Institute

Tuesday, June 20 th : Tel Aviv

Today we'll be visiting the Weizman Institute of Science and the Ayalon Institute , used by the Palmach as a munitions factory under the noses of the British during the mandate. We'll enjoy lunch on the Mid-Rachov and visit the Art Fair. Late checkout and transfer to Ben Gurion International for our return flight home. Wednesday, June 21 st : Enroute Today we return to the U.S. with memories to cherish for a lifetime.
