Enjoy a literary weekend with
Janet R. Kirchheimer sponsored by
  BSKI's adult education committee

Join acclaimed poet
Janet R. Kirchheimer at BSKI for two exciting activities the weekend of March 6 and 7.

 On Saturday evening, March 6,
from 7:30pm to 9:30pm,
join us for a fun-filled coffeehouse featuring Janet and local poets, with musical entertainment.

On Sunday morning, March 7, from 10:00am to 12:00noon, Janet will lead a workshop on “Personal responsibility:  am I my brother’s keeper and just whose brother is it anyway?”

We’re all taught to have personal responsibility. We’re taught to take responsibility if we’ve done something wrong, and we’re also taught to stand up to injustice. But how far does responsibility go?
What are our responsibilities in today’s world?  How can we decide what they are, and what do we take on as our personal responsibilities and what do we teach our lovedones? Usingour personal stories, Jewish text study, and writing exercises,
we’ll discuss what we believe in, and ways we can expand and deepen our ideas about responsibility.

Janet is a Teaching Fellow at Clal
The National Jewish Center for Learning and Leadership.

In addition to teaching Jewish leadership development, text, and history classes, giving readings and speaking about the Holocaust, she conducts writing workshops teaching adults and teens about Judaism using
creative writing exercises and poetry, and leads a
"Poetry Shmooze" where participants read and discuss Jewish-themed poems.  Her poetry has appeared in several  journals, and she was nominated for Pushcart Prize in 2007.

Janet’s book, HOW TO SPOT ONE OF US (Fall ‘07), is
a collection of over 90 poems inspired by her family’s   tragedy in the Holocaust. Honoring their memory, she provides a moving tribute to the powers of faith and hope   for the future. In addition to Nobel Laureate Elie  Wiesel, this book is endorsed by author Rabbi Harold Kushner, historian Sir Martin Gilbert, and poet
Mary Stewart Hammond, among others. Janet has also published many poems that are not related to the Holocaust and will read some of them at the Coffeehouse.

Light refreshments will be served at both events.
There  is no charge.
